Critical Fengshui
(Fengshui Studio) 2016 Residency @ NTU-CCA Curated by Richard Ho (Fengshui master) Critical Fengshui is an on-going project that attempts to interpret and design spaces through the lens of the curatorial with Fengshui. In this instance, a fengshui master was hired to survey the studio @ NTU-CCA. The artist then responds to his divination with a series of artistic intervention to "prime" the space for a good residency stay, and a good future as an artist. |

Critical Fengshui
(Gillman Barracks) 2017 Part of The Making of an Institution Curated by Anca Rujoiu, Anna Lovecchio, Ute Meta Bauer. Critical Fengshui (Gillman Barracks) is a conceptual intervention of the art enclave in Singapore, Gillman Barracks, using principles of Fengshui and art. The video depicts scenes of the rather empty sites, with subtitles showing the conversation between Kray and a Fengshui master - the artist makes observations directed at the institutions and establishments of Gillman, while the master respond with metaphysical metaphors. In a country and culture famous for employing Fengshui to intervene in urban planning and design, the artist took matters upon his own hands to attempt to rescue a withering art site with the help of divinity. Through the evident lack of vibrancy, the video reflects on the struggles of the local art ecology, and allegorises on the conditions of artistic calling. |
