Every Good Body Dances
2019
Part of Art Encounters Biennial 2019
Curated by Anca Rujoiu, Maria Lind.

Every Good Body Dances is a new commission for Art Encounters Biennial 2019, curated by Anca Rujoiu and Maria Lind. This 2 channel video was installed in a community theatre space at the Youth House in Timisoara, with the work and space sharing with the local teens at different times of the day. The work features Florin Boita and his band, who performs their
song "Yesterday I Went to the Village Priest" first at the original tempo of 150 bpm and then with each repeat, at 100, 50, 25, and lastly 12 bpm. This is performed for a long take and accompanied by a group of Hora dancers who respond to this deconstructed music. The resulting combined performance is one that transforms the conviviality of Baltic folk pop to a melancholic, contemplative rendering that examines the scores that highlight our ritualistic nature.
